MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A curfew is in effect for the City of Myrtle Beach from 6 p.m. Saturday until 6 a.m. Sunday.

City Manager John Pederson issued the executive order under the civil emergency declaration which Mayor John Rhodes signed Friday, in advance of Hurricane Matthew.  The city also is asking people not to re-enter the City of Myrtle Beach until 12 p.m., Sunday, October 9.

“We need time to assess the damage, especially along the oceanfront, and make things safe for the public,” Pedersen said.  Here are the executive orders currently in place.  Numbers 4 and 5 are new.

  1. Effective immediately, all building permit fees related to repairing storm damage are hereby waived until this order is rescinded.
  2. Effective immediately, all water activities including swimming and surfing are suspended until this order is rescinded.
  3. In order to minimize travel into Zone A, effective Saturday, October 8, at 6:00 a.m., all businesses in Zone A with the exception of those hotels that are currently housing guests and businesses fronting Kings Highway are ordered closed until this order is rescinded.
  4. Hurricane Matthew will continue be a threat to public health safety and welfare for the next several hours.  These threats are greater during the night.  A curfew is ordered in the City of Myrtle Beach from 6:00 p.m. Saturday, October 8, until 6:00 a.m., Sunday October 9.
  5. To allow for damage assessment and preliminary damage mitigation, members of the public who sought refuge elsewhere are requested to delay re-entry into the city until noon, Sunday October 9.
