MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW)- Over 3,000 cars packed the parking lot of the old Myrtle Square Mall today. It’s the Pee Dee Street Rodders’ 28th annual Run to the Sun car show.
Spokesperson David Rodgers said Friday was the perfect day for a car show, minus the pollen.
“Black cars turn yellow, blue cars turn green, it’s just a pain,” he said.
The annual event takes place every third weekend in March.
“Pollen has been a real problem this year, it always is but I’ve never seen it to the extent that it is this year,” explained Rodgers.
Rodgers says he typically prays for sunshine, but this year he’s secretly hoping for rain.
“That would knock some of the pollen out of the air,” he stated.
Instead of catching rays, the cars are catching yellow dust.
“We wipe this thing every 30 minutes,” stated James Boswell.
Boswell traveled all the way from Lexington, Ky to show off his 1938 Chevrolet pickup truck, which he calls his baby.
“I am a proud papa,” he stated.
With a stainless steel bumper, tan leather interior and cherry wood bed.
“This is the best looking truck on the lot,” said Boswell.
Friday was a big day, but Rodgers says Saturday will be even busier.
“It’s hard to believe that we’re going to have more tomorrow than today, but Saturday is the day,” he explained.
Gates are open from 7am – 7pm. The event is free for spectators. Rodgers recommends people park at Broadway at the Beach and use the shuttle. All Run to the Sun proceeds go to charity.
