Osprey Cove on high alert after string of burglaries

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Neighbors in Osprey Cove are on high alert following a string of burglaries in the area over the past few weeks.

“You drive through the neighborhood at night, and everybody’s got their lights on. Their front lights, back lights. I mean, they’re doing everything they can, but this guy, it doesn’t seem to deter him,” Ernest Aroso, an Osprey Cove resident said.

Aroso’s wife was home when he says someone tried to break into their house around three weeks ago. After that, they spent around $1,000 dollars on extra security features for their home.

“We put a security system in, we got outside cameras, motion detector spotlights, hoping that helps, but it’s getting pretty bad in the neighborhood,” Aroso said.

Even then, Aroso says he still doesn’t feel comfortable in his home, and he isn’t the only one.

Down the road, Laura Hizon says someone has tried to break into her house two times in the past month.

“When I first moved here, I didn’t even lock my doors; the kids left their toys in the front yard. Nothing had ever been taken. These past four years things have gotten a lot worse,” Hizon said.

Hizon was home both times the burglars tried to break in. Now she’s trying to make her home more secure so it doesn’t happen again.

Aroso says he’s even considered moving if it would mean more peace of mind.

“You don’t wanna have to live like this every night and wondering if someone’s gonna break into your house. And you don’t know if they’re coming just to steal something or they’re coming in to harm you. You really don’t know. It’s no fun living like this,” Aroso said.
