LUMBER BRIDGE, NC (WBTW) – Deputies with the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a shooting that happened Tuesday evening in Lumber Bridge, killing one man.

According to Major Anthony Thompson, the shooting happened at a home on Chason Road about 7:10 p.m. Tuesday. James Fritzgerald Purdie, 43, of Lumber Bridge was shot and killed, Major Thompson reveals.

Witnesses of the shooting told deputies that Purdie drove his vehicle into the front yard of the home on Chason Road, and was seen getting out of the car with a gun in his hand. A person at the home fired a shot at Purdie, killing him, says Major Thompson.

There has been an ongoing conflict between Purdie and the shooter. No charges have been filed at this time. Major Thompson says the findings of the investigation will be forwarded to the District Attorney Office for review.
