HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW)- The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash in Horry County on Saturday evening.

According to the Highway Patrol website, it happened just after 6:30pm on Pine Needle and Freemont Road.

Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden says Edgar David Perez Guerra, age 30, originally from Honduras but currently living in Little River died of injuries sustained in the collision.

Troopers says the driver of a 2008 Ford van was traveling north on Pine Needle Drive before running off the right side of the road and hitting a tree.

Troopers say Guerra was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say a passenger in the vehicle was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment.

The crash is under investigation.
