One person was killed following a shootout will police outside a Florence hotel. 

According to Lt. Mike Brandt of the Florence Police Department, just after noon on Saturday, officers were called to the Hilton Garden Inn off David McLeod Boulevard about a person with a gun. 

Officers and the male suspect exchanged gunfire. The subject was injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. No officers were injured in the incident. 

Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken identified the man as 68-year-old Jethro Benjamin of Florence. He died at the hospital from his injures. His body will be taken to MUSC Charleston for autopsy Sunday morning. 

The Florence Police Chief has requested SLED to investigate. SLED is now on scene conducting their investigation.
