A moped driver died after a four-vehicle crash on  US 701 (Broad Street) near the intersection with SC 410.

According to the SC Highway Patrol, the crash happened just after 9:30pm.

Troopers say a 2007 Chevy SUV was driving north on 701, while a 2001 Dodge, a 1993 Lexus 4-door, and a Tao Moped were driving south. The driver of the moped crossed into the northbound lane, and was hit by the driver of the Chevy. Troopers say the Chevy overturned, and crossed into the southbound lane, hitting the Dodge. The Lexus then hit both the Dodge and the Chevy.

The driver of the Chevy was transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center with serious injuries, and the driver of the Dodge was also transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical center with unknown injuries.

The driver of the Lexus was not hurt.

According to Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler, the person driving the moped died at the scene.

Fowler identifies the victim as James Jarrett 37 of Conway.

According to the Fowler, the cause of death is mass multi trauma.

Fowler says the victim was not wearing a helmet.

The crash is under investigation by the SC Highway Patrol.
