Mount Pleasant Police say one of their own is now fired after being jailed on harassment charges involving his former fiancee.
According to a police report, this Saturday at 3:15 p.m. when an officer responded to a home on Forest Lakes Blvd. in reference to a harassment complaint.
The Mount Pleasant Police Officer involved in the case, Alex Gillespie, was first put on administrative leave after his arrest on Monday, but on Tuesday afternoon was fired, police now say.
When police on Saturday about the complaint, the victim told authorities she had been engaged to Alex Gillespie but ended their engagement over the Summer and they continued to see each other until February 2015, when they finally decided to break things off.
The victim told Charleston City Police that Gillespie called her March 5, 2015 several times after midnight.
She hung up on him after finding out who it was, authorities say. The victim stated that she awoke to Mr. Gillespie pounding on her front door and honking the horn in her driveway the same night, according to police.
Gillespie eventually left the victim’s residence. Gillespie later sent several obscene text messages to the victim, police say.
There was no further contact until St. Patrick’s Day, when the victim was on a date at Mac’s Place Bar & grill when she was approached by Mr. Gillespie, who then sat across the bar staring at her for the remainder of her date, authorities say.
The victim told police that she later received 270 obscene text messages from Mr. Gillespie and from his friend’s phone that same afternoon, authorities say.
The victim blocked Gillespie’s phone number. She told police she feared for her safety.
Gillespie graduated from Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, Wisc. in 2009 where he studied Criminal Justice, according to his Facebook page.
A press release emailed to the media by the MPPD, said, Officer Alex Gillespie has been terminated as a result of an internal investigation and after his arrest by Charleston City Police Monday night.
