NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – One man was arrested Monday in a fatal hit and run incident that happened early in the morning on Aug. 29.
The incident report from North Myrtle Beach spokesperson Pat Dowling says a North Myrtle Beach officer was called to Highway 22 and Highway 31 in reference to a disorderly individual. When the investigator arrived, the caller told him that a man had exited their car after an argument and refused to get back inside the vehicle. The caller said they drove off and left the man near the side of the road.
While the officer began searching the area for the man, a call came in that a pedestrian had been struck in the area of Highway 22 and Highway 31. The incident report says the pedestrian that had been hit matched the description of the man officers were searching for.
Through the course of the investigation, it is believed that the man was walking along the road when a car struck him and drove away, leaving skid marks. The report says a second vehicle struck him again, and pulled over to call 911. As the driver of the second car was calling for help, another car hit the body laying in the roadway. The third car also fled the scene before officers arrived, the report says.
The person hit by the cars was confirmed to be the same individual officials were looking for along the roadway. Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler identified the victim as 23-year-old Andrew McGuire from Myrtle Beach last month.
On Monday, Gregory Harrison Wilson turned himself in to North Myrtle Beach police. Wilson, 53, who is from Longs, was charged with hit and run, duties of driver involved in accident with death.
Wilson’s bond was set at $10,000. The suspect was released two hours after his arrest.
