NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Firefighters say a house fire in North Myrtle Beach Monday night was caused by lightning.

Units were dispatched for a residential structure fire on the 1500 Block of 25th Ave North in the Palmetto Shores subdivision shortly after 8:30 p.m. A Facebook post from North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue says separate callers reported seeing flames and around the same time the emergency calls came in, dispatch received a fire alarm activation for the residence.

North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue reports the first units on the scene noticed charring along the roof line on three different sides. Due to thunderstorms in the area at the time, fire officials say it’s believed the fire was caused by a “direct lightning strike to the home.”

Firefighters found smoke conditions inside the home, but no active fire. Crews worked for just over two hours on scene before clearing shortly after 11 p.m.
