NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Firefighters from the North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety were in the community today collecting donations in their boots. They were participating in the “Fill the Boot” campaign which raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) and Jerry’s Kids Organization.
“It’s just a great was to reach out and get to know the public a little better,” said Lieutenant James Vreeland.
Several people came up to the firefighters to donate and thank them for their service.
“Even though it’s not for us, it’s for the MDA, they say ‘thank you’ which makes us feel good about what we do,” added Lieutenant Matthew Davidson.
“Fill the Boot” is an annual event that happens all over the county. The Myrtle Beach Fire Department also plans to host a “Fill the Boot” day within the next few weeks.
