North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue’s fire protection rating from the Insurance Services Office will improve, according to its Twitter account.

The department said Thursday it will improve to a Class 2, effective October 1, 2015. The department previously held a Class 3 rating.

North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue received its ISO Public Protection Classification Survey in February. The survey evaluated all elements of the department’s fire rescue service, in addition to water supply services from the City of North Myrtle Beach. Following the evaluation, departments receive a 1-10 rating.

“This is great news for our department and the public we serve,” department officials wrote on its Facebook page.

The change reflects North Myrtle Beach’s increased level of fire protection service. ISO ratings are used by most U.S. insurers as a factor when deciding what business to write, coverage to offer or prices to charge for personal or commercial property insurance.
