North Myrtle Beach extends emergency ordinance

North Myrtle Beach Council

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) –  Council voted unanimously on Wednesday to extend the state of emergency for North Myrtle Beach.

The emergency ordinance was set to expire on Thursday. With the extension, the city will have the flexibility during upcoming weeks to make emergency purchases, such as installing plexiglass shields at the family aquatic center or putting footprints on the floors for social distancing.

The declaration potentially could help with federal funds, according to Manager Michael Mahaney. The ordinance does not include mandates for businesses.

North Myrtle Beach also has opened online reservations for beach umbrellas and chairs. The umbrellas will be set 10 feet apart and chairs will be sanitized while patrons are watching.
