NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW)- North Myrtle Beach City Council recently approved 22 stormwater improvement projects.
Last October, King of Glory Lutheran Church Property Manager Tracy Millar says the area along 11th Avenue North and Bellamy Road flooded. He says they pumped water daily for five months straight.
“The ground was so saturated, the water had no where to go,” said Millar.
It didn’t help that the nearest drain was over 1,000 feet away.
“We have catch basins not storm drains, so the water goes into these holes in the ground basically sits there,” Millar explained
North Myrtle Beach has 22 stormwater improvement projects planned, costing a total of $1.7 million. City council voted to increase the stormwater management fee by $2 to help fund the projects.
“It’s a long time coming and I think it’s a good idea,” stated Millar
The list of projects is divided into four groups. 11th Avenue North is listed in the first priority group, meaning it has significant flooding and requires significant maintenance.
City Spokesperson Pat Dowling says work will take place during the fall and winter months. He expects the entire list of projects to be finished in the next three years.
