RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) – North Carolina officials are reporting whether the state’s employers continued responding to an improving economy by hiring more workers.
The state Commerce Department on Tuesday releases the monthly unemployment rate report for January. The national unemployment rate for January was 5.7 percent.
North Carolina’s jobless rate was slightly lower than the national unemployment rate in December.
North Carolina’s December jobless rate dropped for the fourth straight month to 5.5 percent. The state’s unemployment rate has fallen from 6.9 percent in December 2013.
The number of North Carolina unemployed decreased almost 16,000 between November and December to more than 255,000.
