CORNELIUS, N.C. (AP) – Authorities say a police officer in Cornelius has been shot in the stomach while on a domestic disturbance call.
Cornelius Police Chief Bence Hoyle said at a news conference that the wounded officer was a lieutenant and shift commander who went to a home in a subdivision Saturday morning.
Hoyle says the officer was alert and talking as he was taken to the hospital.
The police chief says a mother, her 16-year-old son and his girlfriend were all in the home when the officer arrived. They are all being questioned and no charges have been filed yet.
Officers from neighboring forces in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, Huntersville and Davidson all helped respond to the shooting.
