LUMBERTON, NC (WBTW) – North Carolina Speaker of the House Tim Moore visited Robeson County on Wednesday to discuss Hurricane Florence recovery.
Moore was joined by several local leaders as he discussed what the General Assembly plans to do to prevent further flooding in Lumberton. He says they’re working to secure funds from the federal government. Another focus is making sure rivers and streams are cleared out. He says one of the top priorities is making sure the right amount of money gets distributed to the right places. He mentioned there was a delay in funding from 2016 and he wants to know why that money hasn’t been distributed yet.
“What I can tell you is the General Assembly is looking at coming back in to special session. I’ve spoken to all of our legislative colleagues. We’re all prepared to come back in and do it, make sure the money is appropriated. And make sure the money, once it’s appropriated, that it actually gets out to where it’s supposed to be. I know there’s a delay from 2016. I don’t know why that’s happened but we’re asking a lot of questions because that needs to happen and it needs to happen sooner rather than later,” he said.
He also took the time to thank first responders for their work before, during and after the storm.
