MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – South Carolina health officials are investigating illnesses at a local school.
The Department of Health and Environmental Control is, “investigating a report of rash illnesses from Clio Elementary Middle School.”
DHEC initially said:
It is important to note that these types of illnesses can be the result of multiple causes. Some individuals are being tested for measles, however, the circumstances initially reported to DHEC are not suggestive of measles. There is the possibility of false positive measles tests.
After looking into the situation DHEC provided News13 with the following update:
Upon further investigation, no actual measles testing was done. The health care provider told parents to return on Friday for possible measles testing if illness persisted.
DHEC’s regional epidemiologist provided education on handling suspected measles cases. We encourage all healthcare providers to remain aware of possible symptoms, and notify DHEC if any symptoms resembling measles arise, in an effort to prevent the potential spread of this highly contagious disease.
No testing will be done since no cases are clinically consistent with measles.
