GEORGETOWN, SC (WBTW) – A Williamsburg County man will not face charges for taking his 2-month-old son and causing Georgetown County deputies to release a missing child alert.
The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office distributed a release Saturday asking for the community’s help in locating missing 2-month-old Damarionte Williams. Officials say the infant’s father took the child from the baby mother’s home in Andrews Saturday afternoon.
At the time of the missing child alert, deputies were also searching for Rakeem Cornelius Williams, 26, in connection to the child’s disappearance, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office. The infant was found safe in Kingstree by sheriff’s office personnel.
An update released Monday evening says Rakeem Williams will not be charged for taking his 2-month-old son from the home of the baby’s mother.
“After considering new evidence brought to light during a continuing investigation by the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, Chief Magistrate Isaac Pyatt rescinded a warrant for Rakeem Cornelius Williams, 22, of Salters,” the release reads.
The infant’s mother originally told officers Saturday afternoon that Rakeem Williams and his sister took the infant without her permission. Officers contacted the sister by telephone and advised her to tell the father to return the child. Rakeem Williams eventually left the baby with his mother in Salters, deputies report. Sheriff’s office investigators returned the child to his mother in Andrews.
Judge Pyatt says the facts of the case did not rise to meet criteria for criminal charges.
