MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach city leaders approved an ordinance Tuesday that could allow Market Common to become the home of a new VA clinic.
City council approved the I-Tap district in the Market Common for medical use, and the city will now work to submit that location.
The city’s planning director says an area behind Coastal Grand Mall will also be submitted.
From there, it will be up to the government to decide where it wants the center to go.
Market Common is already home to a smaller primary care clinic that city leaders say the area has outgrown.
“That would make it a lot easier for people in this area to get the services probably closer to home because otherwise they have to go to Charleston or Wilmington or Columbia, ” said the city’s Planning Director Carol Coleman.
During Tuesday’s meeting, council leaders also discussed putting a parking lot in the I-Tap district.
If approved, city leaders hope to use the area as overflow parking for special events.
