New scam: callers pose as Pawleys Island police officers with IRS warrant

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WBTW) – A tweet from the Pawleys Island Police Department revealed a new scam affecting residents of Georgetown County Monday.

The police department says that scammers are calling people and identifying themselves as a member of the Pawleys Island police force claiming to have an arrest warrant from the IRS.

Officials confirm that these calls are nothing but a scam.

If you suspect someone is trying to scam you, do not give them any information, hang up and call local police. You can also report scams by contacting the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) online or by phone at  800-366-4484.
