Complications from surgery are often the reason patients have to go back into the hospital, according to a new JAMA study. Researchers in Chicago looked at nearly 350 hospitals. They found readmissions within the first 30 days after surgery were linked to surgical complications, not to the medical condition that required hospitalization in the first place. Surgical site infections were the most common reason to be readmitted. SOURCE – JAMA /MedDay/CBS
