CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) – A new operator has been found to keep open hospitals in Bennettsville and Cheraw.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that M/C Healthcare has agreed to operate Marlboro Park Hospital in Bennettsville and Chesterfield General Hospital.
The hospitals are 15 miles from each other and were scheduled to close at the end of next month because Community Health Systems decided not to renew its operating license.
Hospitals spokeswoman Wendy Wagner said M/C Healthcare LLC will take over April 1. Wagner did not disclose terms of the agreement.
Marlboro Park Hospital lost $35 million between 2009 and 2013, more than any other hospital in South Carolina. Chesterfield General Hospital had a profit of more than $8 million during the same period.
