HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – A new event aims at supporting local firefighters, rescue workers and their families in time of need.

The 2016 Fireman’s Ball will take place at the Hilton Myrtle Beach Resort on December 10. Money raised at the event will help support the Horry County Firefighters Relief Fund.

“When a fireman’s family is in need, we can step in and provide some assistance to hopefully take them through a rough patch or through a death in the family,” Dennis Picard, of the HCFFRF, said.

The non-profit organization aims to assisting and supporting firefighters and the community in Horry County. The Horry County Firefighters Relief Fund helps provide services and financial assistance in times of need. The organization has also developed a cancer fund, benevolent fund and has plans to debut a new scholarship fund.

“If you’re in a bad situation, you want these people – you want the fire department, first of all, in there,” HCFFRF President Marie Rimm said. “From there, if something happens to one of our guys or girls, that’s when the relief fund steps in, and they come to us. We have a private assistance committee off of the relief fund.”

The organization hopes to raise $20,000 through its 2016 Fireman’s Ball.

The 2016 Fireman’s Ball is open to the public. To purchase a ticket or to make a donation to the organization, visit the Horry County Firefighters Relief Fund on Facebook or HCFFRF.com.
