SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Charges against a Spartanburg County babysitter who deputies say was watching a 3-month-old when she suffered injuries that led to her death have been upgraded.

Katie Wheeler Harris now faces a charge of Homicide by Child Abuse. She will face a judge in July.

Investigators say they were called to the hospital in March after the baby, Everly Dickard, was brought in with injuries, including bilateral subdural homatomas and retinal hemorrhages.

Dickard later passed away as a result of the injuries.

During the investigation, officials say Harris admitted that she originally lied about how the baby was injured.

After the findings of the investigation were presented to a judge Wednesday, the upgraded warrant was issued and Harris turned herself in. She was denied bond.
