The Florence County Sheriff’s Office has added a new member to the bloodhound tracking team.
The new addition is Sugar, a 20-week-old bloodhound donated to the Law Enforcement Advocacy Foundation (LEAF) by Jack Brown, a U.S. Air Force veteran and retired police officer from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Brown, also a former member of Pinkerton Detective Agency, donated Sugar with the instruction that she be given to an appropriate law enforcement agency in our area. LEAF chose to donate Sugar to Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
“A lot goes into deciding where the dogs go,” said Stacey Watts, Executive Director for LEAF. “Obviously, our main concern is the safety and well being of the dog, where they are housed and who they will be paired with. We always go to FCSO first to see if they need the donation for the simple fact that it’s our hometown and we know how the dogs are treated and maintained. FCSO was chosen for Sugar because she was needed and we knew that she would be in great hands.”
“We welcome Sugar as our newest blood hound in training,” Sheriff Kenney Boone stated. “As soon as she is old enough and trained, she will join our other tracing canines to help us locate fleeing suspects, lost children and wandering Alzheimer’s victims. We appreciate all LEAF does for our agency and other law enforcement entities in our area to purchase assets and equipment we couldn’t otherwise justify.”
LEAF is a non-profit organization that focuses on raising funds to purchase safety, training and tactical equipment for local law enforcement agencies.
