MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – X-League professional indoor football announced Monday that it is expanding and launching a news team in Myrtle Beach. The new team will be called the Myrtle Beach Freedom.
Home games will be played in the city’s convention center beginning in 2016. The league’s season runs from later March through June. The season is eight games long.
Owner Ronnie McCuin promised the indoor football will bring a fun and exciting game. In addition to league rules that keep the game moving, McCuin said he plans to have a tailgate party before each game.
An open house and a “Pick Your Ticket Night” is scheduled for September 6th from 4 to 6 p.m.
“It’s absolutely surreal to be honest with you. The vision has been there for years, and the reality of it is a little over a month old. So this is a brand new ground floor opportunity,” McCuin said. “Its real. It’s happening. It’s Myrtle Beach is getting an arena football team, and I couldn’t be prouder.”
The Freedom is also planning an elementary school reading program, a middle school mentoring program and a high school and college volunteer internship program. In addition, the team will sponsor a scholarship for a student in the Horry Georgetown Technical College sports tourism program.
The team is currently looking for sponsors, season ticket holders, staff, coaches, players, interns and game day volunteers. Anyone interested in more details can find information at the team’s website www.myrtlebeachfreedom.com. Email is also accepted at myrtlebeachfreedom@yahoo.com.
