An 82-year old woman’s death is being investigated as a homicide by neglect after Greenville Police were told she had been left in a bedroom chair for six months.
Barbara Anne Beam, 82, was found dead at a home on January 2 on Mt. Vista Avenue according to the Greenville County Coroner. She lived at the home with two adult relatives.
Two people were at the home at the time her body was found according to a Greenville Police Department incident report. The report says officers were told Beam had not moved out of the chair for approximately six months.
A woman in the home told officers Beam was found slumped over in the chair just after noon on January 2 and 911 was called.
The coroner’s office determined the death to be a homicide by neglect. The autopsy showed the cause of Beam’s death was pulmonary embolus secondary to deep venous thrombosis secondary to prolonged inactivity/cellulitis secondary to neglect.
The homicide is being investigated by Greenville Police and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.
