CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Nearly 7,000 combined customers of Santee Cooper and Horry Electric were without power Friday afternoon.

According to Horry Electric Cooperative, more than 3,200 customers were without power near the Quail Creek substation between Carolina Forest and Conway. Before 5:30 p.m., the utility company reported they had crews en route to the substation to address the problem.

“The outage this afternoon is due to loss of transmission from Santee Cooper into the Quail Creek Substation,” Horry Electric reported on its Facebook page.

Santee Cooper also reported small outage areas spanning from Carolina Forest Boulevard back to the Myrtle Beach International Airport. The electric company reported 3,216 customers were affected by the outages. No reason for the power outage was immediately given by Santee Cooper.
