ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Police have arrested a woman they say assaulted two Asheville officers while trying to flee a traffic stop on Friday night.

39-year-old Katrina Robinson was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a government official among several other charges.

Police were investigating the theft of makeup from the Kmart on Patton Avenue and attempted to stop Robinson’s vehicle in connection to that case, according to Asheville Police Lt. Wallace Welch.

Officers say Robinson stopped her car, but locked the doors and when police reached in to pull her out of the car, she hit the gas and drove away.

The officers were knocked down as Robinson sped off and suffered bruises in the incident, police said.

Lt. Welch says Robinson was arrested after a chase.

Robinson was accused of stealing $18.77 worth of makeup items from Kmart, theAsheville Citizen-Times reported.

A passenger in Robinson’s car ran from the scene and has not been found.

Robinson is being held at the Buncombe County Dentention Facility on $31,000 bond.— WSPA-TV contributed to this report
