LEICESTER, NC  – One way to win a million dollars could be trying to prove that no one ever wins big money in the lottery.

Glenda Blackwell from Leicester says she was trying to teach her husband a lesson after he asked her to buy some Powerball tickets. North Carolina lottery officials say Glenda decided to buy a Carolina Millions scratch-off ticket.

“I wanted to show him that luck doesn’t always hit,” Blackwell said in a written statement. She scratched off the numbers and found the ticket was worth one million dollars.

“I had to eat my words,” Blackwell said, “but those are pretty good words to eat.”

The couple elected to take a lump sum payment of $600,000 which will leave them more than $415,000 after taxes. She plans to buy a new home with the money.

Blackwell bought the $10 ticket at the Suttles Quik Mart on New Found Road in Asheville.
