COLUMBIA, S.C.  – A South Carolina woman who gave a North Carolina woman a new dog after it was killed in a home break-in is now in need of support.

Jonsie Duke’s 3-year-old German Shepard Marley was shot and killed during a home break-in in Louisburg in November 2015.

Duke’s story went viral with the hashtag #JusticeforMarley and South Carolina dog breeder, Carolin Hogue, saw the WNCN story and decided to help.

In December, Hogue met up with Duke in Lumberton and gave her a new German Shepard puppy.

According to a GoFundMe created by Duke, Hogue and her family lost everything in a fire Tuesday.

“Their home is a total loss and all their belongings are also gone,” Duke writes on the page. “I decided to start this campaign because of what they did for me in my time of pain now we must help them in their time. They have beautiful children and we need to Help these kids rebuild their lives as soon as possible.”

Duke asks that the public help her pay it forward by donating what they can on the GoFundMe page.
