HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. – A teenager in Hendersonville is accused of hitting a middle school student who was getting on a bus Tuesday morning, then leaving the scene.

Police say Jonah Wesley VanDoren, 17, passed the bus which was letting students on, then hit the 12-year-old, knocking him to the ground around 7:45 a.m., according to authorities.

Officials say VanDoren then left the scene and went to West Henderson High School to turn himself in to the principal.

VanDoren is charged with Felony Hit and Run Resulting in Injury and Felony Passing a Stopped School Bus Striking a Person.

The child was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

VanDoren is being held at the Henderson County Detention Center on a $6,000 secured bond.
