SMITHFIELD, N.C. — The Smithfield Police have located and spoken with a person of interest in connection with the discovery of infant body parts under a house in Smithfield over the weekend.
Bridgette Morgan Smith, 40, was named a person of interest in the case by Smithfield Police on Wednesday, police said. On Thursday, the Smithfield Police confirmed they have located Smith.
The police did not release any more details on the case.
The body parts found at the house were from two babies.
The remains were found Saturday in two separate bags under a Smithfield residence, court documents show.
Just before 5 p.m., Smithfield police officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Hartley Drive in reference to human remains being found.
A resident of the home initially found the bags when he was running a cable under the residence. He described the bags as being “squishy.”
He removed the bags from the crawl space and continued to run the cable. It was only after he finished that he checked the bags and saw the contents. Police were called immediately, court documents show.
No charges have been filed.
