CARY, N.C. – A male nurse technician at WakeMed is out of a job after he was arrested on a felony charge that said he engaged in a sexual act with a patient while on the job.
WNCN confirmed with a different employee who works at WakeMed in Cary that the suspect, Bryan Avery, of Fuquay Varina, worked at the Cary campus.
Court documents reveal that investigators believe the 34-year-old Avery engaged in a sexual act with a patient at WakeMed while he was on the job.
WakeMed officials said the official report was filed last week but said the reported sexual act happened earlier this year.
In a statement to WNCN News, WakeMed said that 34-year-old was a nurse tech at the hospital.
WakeMed said, “This employee’s behavior is not representative of WakeMed and does not reflect the values we work hard to instill in our staff.”
WakeMed would not confirm or deny if the sexual act was consensual, an act of rape, or if the patient was heavily medicated at the time of the incident.
No one answered at Avery’s home when WNCN stopped by despite several cars being parked in the driveway.
One neighbor said he rarely talks to Avery, but could not believe the news.
“It’s just crazy,” said Radwan M. Radwan.
Avery posted his $30,000 bond, according to court documents.
