LUMBERTON, N.C. — A Robeson County teen and the woman in his vehicle were ejected when it crashed Monday during the course of a high-speed chase.
A State Highway Patrolman attempted to pull over a vehicle being operated by Jeremiah Lowery, 19, of Maxton.
Officials said Lowery did not stop after the trooper had on his lights and sirens. The Highway Patrol said Lowery was driving at speeds up to 95 miles per hour while eluding the trooper.
Around 3:20 a.m., Lowery’s vehicle ran off Hezekiah Road near N.C. 710 and hit a ditch.
Lowery and his passenger, 26-year-old Korin Michelle Rose, of Hamlet were ejected from the vehicle upon impact.
Rose was killed in the collision, officials confirmed. Lowery was critically injured.
Rose, who was a graduate of Douglas Byrd High School in Fayetteville, leaves behind at least two children, according to her Facebook profile.
Rose and Lowery were friends on Facebook.
There were many messages on Facebook asking for prayers for Lowery as he struggles to recover from the crash.
“Everybody please call out my son Eli’ s name this morning in church please everybody pray for him Jeremiah Eli Lowery. He is a fighter and I know he is not giving up. And he has along journey ahead of him. Please keep us all in your prayers,” wrote Joy Jefferson on Facebook.
Neither Lowery nor Rose were wearing seat belts, according to the Highway Patrol.
