JACKSONVILLE, N.C. – A 55-year-old Camp Lejeune Marine officer is facing several charges that include sexual assault and sexual abuse of a child.
The Naval Criminal Investigation Service Carolina Field Office is investigating the case and the charges were filed on Nov. 15. Col. Daniel H. Wilson, of Mason, Washington, is assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force. He is not under any form of pretrial restraint.
The allegations include assault consummated by battery on a child under the age of 16 years, failure to obey a general order or regulation, and conduct unbecoming of an officer.
According to a press release from the United States Marine Corps Public Affairs, Office Col. Wilson entered the Marine Corps in June 1981. He is an 8041 promoted to his current rank on May 1, 2010. His current assignment to II Marine Expeditionary Force as the Operations Officer began on April 30. He has completed 11 deployments throughout his career.
His personal awards include the Legion of Merit, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal.
Col. Wilson was reassigned to administrative duties following the initiation of the investigations into his alleged misconduct. An Article 32 hearing has been directed to occur in the near future however, a firm date has not been determined.
