MARION, NC – A North Carolina man who was shot during a fight with relatives has now been charged with sex offense of a child, reports and deputies say.

The case began Sept. 13 when Lawrence Anthony Walker III, 22, of Marion was shot when two of his relatives visited his Carroll Street home and a fight ensued, according the McDowell News.

During the fight, a small handgun was pulled out and a female relative shot Walker in the leg, the newspaper reported.

Walker then ran from his home, but was later taken to a nearby hospital, according to the McDowell News.

After the shooting incident, Marion Police conducted an investigation involving Walker.  Walker was then charged the next day with felony second-degree forced sexual offense, the newspaper reported.

On Wednesday, the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office announced that Walker was charged with first-degree sex offense of a child after he had an “ongoing relationship” with a girl he knew.

The victim is now 16 years old, but deputies say that the sex abuse started when she was 6 years old.

The victim told family members, who then reported it to authorities.

The McDowell News reported that the shooting and the charges the next day are connected.

The female relative involved in the shooting was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, according to the newspaper.

Walker is now being held in the McDowell County Jail.
