A man has been arrested and warrants have been obtained in a human trafficking investigation.
A press release from the Myrtle Beach Police Department says Dequan Jonquil Blakeney had been identified as a suspect and warrants have been served on the charges of human trafficking, kidnapping, and third degree assault. He was arrested Friday morning in North Carolina. These warrants will be served once Blakeney is extradited back to South Carolina.
According to the release, officers began an investigation on Tuesday after it was reported that a victim had been taken to multiple cities, including Myrtle Beach, and “forced to participate as a prostitute in a sex trafficking operation.”
Myrtle Beach officers had assistance from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, FBI Columbia office, FBI Charlotte office, and the FBI Myrtle Beach office.
No other information on the investigation or the suspect is available. WBTW News13 will provide updates as we receive them.
