SANFORD, N.C. – A former Lee County High School basketball player is scheduled to appear in court today, facing first-degree murder charges in the deaths of two men.
Namique Farrow, 18, faces two counts of first-degree murder and one count of assault with a deadly weapon stemming from a shooting Saturday morning.
Randy Kinney, 35, was pronounced dead at a house in the 1400 block of Goldsboro Avenue in Sanford at about 3:30 a.m. Shawn Hooker, 37, was also killed while a third victim was shot in the lower leg but was treated and released from the hospital.
Kinney’s father said his son was a disc jockey who was at the house to discuss logistics for a party there later that day.
“He was coming up from the back of the house to the side of the house. When he turned the corner, that when the shots rung out,” Thorman Kinney said.
He says his son was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
As Kinney prepares for his son’s funeral, he says he’ll miss the many fun times, conversations about sports and the special bond his son shared with his four children.
“He would gather all of them up, they would be together, he would bring them by and they would play out here in the yard and stuff,” he said.
Farrow’s family left the courthouse today refusing to talk about the charges. Farrow remains in custody at the Lee County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
The Lee County School District says Farrow was scheduled to graduate from high school soon. Farrow was a player on the Lee County High School basketball team.
Police say a motive is unknown.
