ABERDEEN, N.C. — Firefighters were able to save a family’s dog from a house fire in Moore County on Wednesday afternoon.
The incident was reported just before 3 p.m. at a home located at 409 Seymour Street in Aberdeen, according to the Aberdeen Times.
Arriving emergency responders reported heavy smoke and flames visible from the single story home. There were initial reports of a possible life hazard in the fire so arriving firefighters immediately made an inside attack on the fire while searching the home for possible victims, officials said.
There were no residents home at the time of the fire, but during the search firefighters found a family dog inside of the burning home.
An Aberdeen firefighter ran from the burning home carrying the dog. Firefighters and Paramedics immediately began treating the dog with oxygen.
The dog was then quickly transported from the scene by Aberdeen Fire Chief Phillip Richardson to Pinetree Animal Hospital on NC Highway 5.
According to authorities, the home received extensive damage in the fire. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire containing it to two rooms of the home and parts of the attic where it burned through the ceiling, however the entire home received smoke and water damage.
Five people, including two adults and three children, were displaced by the fire and were being assisted by the American Red Cross with temporary housing.
A section of Seymour Street was blocked by fire equipment and large hoses.
Aberdeen Fire and Rescue, Southern Pines Fire and Rescue, Pinebluff Fire Department, Pinehurst Fire Department, Seven Lakes Fire Department, Moore County EMS, Moore County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the Aberdeen Police Department responded to the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
