KENLY, N.C. — Authorities are now confirming that a man Tased by police following a high speed chase on Thursday has died.

Kenly police are identifying that suspect as Alex Thompson of Smithfield.

Thompson, who was 37 years old, died on Sunday and leaves behind three children and a fiancee, according to his obituary.

Police say he led authorities on a chase from Wilson to Johnston county.

Authorities telling us he lost control of his vehicle by Highway 70 and Bizzell Grove Church Road.

It was then, officials say that Thompson got out and ran toward an officer, disregarding several commands to stop. In response, the officer deployed his Taser.

He was taken to WakeMed where he died. The SBI is now investigating the incident.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Casey Funeral Home in Princeton.
