NC coastal authorities arrest 15 in major drug sweep

NEW BERN, N.C. – Coastal Narcotics Enforcement Team members have arrested 14 offenders in an ongoing drug operation and another man on an outstanding warrant.

The special group that targets drug offenders is zeroing in on heroin dealers and repeat drug offenders on probation and parole, officials say.

Participating agencies include the New Bern Police Department, Craven County Sheriff’s Office, Carteret County Sheriff’s Office, Pamlico County Sheriff’s Office, Jones County Sheriff’s Office, Havelock Police Department and the Trent Woods Police Department.

They were assisted by the Morehead City Poice Department, Community Corrections, and the State Bureau of Investigations.

The following people were arrested during the most recent sweep:

25-year-old Justin Avery of New Bern was arrested February 18th for conspiracy to sell and deliver heroin and placed on a $10,000 bond.

36-year-old James Nolon Martinez of New Bern was arrested February 18th for failure to appear and placed on a $750 secured bond. (A spokesperson for New Bern Police said Martinez was not charged with drug violations. He was present at the time one of the subjects was arrested for outstanding drug warrant violations and, at that time, it was discovered that Martinez had an outstanding warrant as well, which led to his arrest.)

27-year-old Kneikko Darnnell Frazelle of New Bern was arrested February 18th for possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin and two counts of conspiracy to sell and deliver heroin and placed on a $50,000 secured bond.

30-year-old Shawn Edward Shepard of Pamlico County was arrested February 17th for eleven counts of trafficking heroin, conspiracy to traffic heroin and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and placed on a $300,000 secured bond.

51-year-old Marcus Edward Earl Golden of New Bern was arrested on February 16thwithout incident for trafficking opiates, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and placed on a $40,000 secured bond.

40-year-old Dennie Dave Sumrell of Clemmons was arrested on February 16th for trafficking opiates, possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin and possession with the intent to sell and deliver a schedule II controlled substance and placed on a $15,000 secured bond.

48-year-old Paula Lynn Rhoades of Newport was arrested on February 15th for possession/distribution of meth precursor chemicals, possession with intent to sell and deliver a schedule IV controlled substance and sell and deliver a schedule IV controlled substance and placed on a $30,000 secured bond.

29-year-old Jeremie Lamar Bryant of New Bern was arrested on February 15th for possession of marijuana and placed on a $1,000 secured bond.

37-year-old Roderick Darvon Miller of New Bern was arrested February 15th for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and released and on a written promise to appear.

39-year-old Jacqueline Denis Berry of New Bern was arrested February 15th for possession of marijuana and misdemeanor child abuse and held on a combined $2,000 secured bond.

36-year-old John Barber of Vanceboro was arrested on February 15th for possession of a schedule II controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia and placed on a $1,000 secured bond.

43-year-old James Styron of New Bern was arrested on February 13th for sell and deliver cocaine and conspiracy to sell cocaine and held on a $1,000 secured bond.

25-year-old Shawn Bouchard of New Bern was arrested February 13th for possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and was released on a written promise to appear.

18-year-old Roy James Nolon of New Bern was arrested on February 13th for possession of marijuana and held on a $1,000 secured bond.

36-year-old Levar Quinitta Shannon of New Bern was arrested February 5th after attempting to flee in a motor vehicle from agents for two counts of possession wit the intent to sell and deliver heroin, possession with the intent to sell and deliver a schedule Ii controlled substance, maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance, possession of a drug paraphernalia, driving while license revoked and felony flee/elude arrest by motor vehicle. He was held on a $525,000 bond.
