The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) presented a 12-minute video of aviation operations at Friday’s (8/31) Public Safety Commission meeting. One of the videos included in the presentation was related to the Austin bomber case and another included rescue operations during Hurricane Harvey.

A different portion of the video, however, is grabbing attention because it involves a woman with a baby in her backseat on a high-speed chase with police. A DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a Mercedes SUV on June 15th. The female driver, who had outstanding warrants, sped off and led police on a high-speed chase, travelling up to at least 100 mph on busy Highway 90. The driver’s front tire was disabled by a tire deflation device by a trooper in communication with DPS aircrew.

The driver eventually crashes into a white pick-up truck, grabs the baby out of the backseat and flees the scene. While attempted to carjack another vehicle, a trooper arrived at the scene. The suspect was arrested and charged with child endangerment, evading arrest, and possession of a controlled substance.
