SHELBY, Ohio (WCMH) — Shelley Carey says she still can’t believe that a tornado rolled through Shelby Sunday night causing so much destruction.
“I kept seeing our barn and I’m thinking, ‘That is where we have all of our parties.’ My daughter’s baby shower is next month,” says Shelley Carey.
While she was in the house baking cookies, her husband Gene Carey was out back in their barn with their four bulldogs when the storm hit.
“He was able to get all four bulldogs in [the barn], she says. “I posted on Facebook this is a miracle. I don’t know how in the world he could have made it in that spot.”
Carey says her husband called her minutes before the storm, telling her to head to the basement.
“When I finally came from up out of the basement we had a vehicle with a grandmother and three children that had pulled in, and our tree fell on them,” said Carey.
Carey says her husband pulled that family out of their car and sheltered them inside of their home.
Bulldogs George, Pork Chop, Otis and Iris survived the storm without a scratch.
“To have all four of our dogs cooperate that’s a miracle itself.”
