WEST PALM BEACH, FL (CNN) – A Florida man faces numerous charges after authorities say he brought a loaded AK-47 assault rifle to his son’s middle school.
But the man says he was reacting to his son telling him he was accosted by a teacher.
Christopher Freeman, a parent and now a suspect, was arrested for entering Bear Lakes Middle School with a loaded AK-47 with an extended magazine in his front pocket. He was charged with possession of a weapon on school property and aggravated assault with deadly weapon.
According to court papers, Monday afternoon Freeman received a Facetime phone call from his son. Freeman said his son was being slammed by a teacher.
Investigators say Freeman then went to school and made a threat inside the front office.
The district says school police immediately confiscated the gun and Freeman never made a threat to school staff.
The judge ordered Freeman to have no contact with any Palm Beach County school. “You will have to stay 500 feet away from all schools, all school property in Palm Beach County,” the judge said.
Freeman may not possess any firearms or any other type of weapons, the judge ordered.
Freeman’s parents pleaded with the judge to place him on house arrest. “Our grandson was thrown around on the video,” his father said.
Bond was set at $75,000.
