DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Monday morning, a woman was found trapped in her vehicle after being reported as missing for three days.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, it is believed that Robin Fancher crashed into a ditch several days ago on County Road 203 at the Limestone Creek Bridge, but her car was not easily visible from the road.
The man who found her, who wished to remain anonymous, said even the responding officers had difficulty locating the car when they arrived.
“The county even went by twice, two or three times actually, went up, turned around and came back by across the bridge again,” said a witness. “They didn’t see her when they came by looking.”
Once first responders reached the scene, the process of safely removing Fancher presented several challenges.
“The main challenges were going to be where the car was and where the victim was pinned against the driver’s door,” Dothan Fire Battalion Chief Pete Webb said. “It was off the road and it was difficult to get the car to pull around her.”
In total, the rescue process took at least five first responder agencies and well over an hour to complete. However, Fancher was freed and taken to a nearby hospital.
“(The) joint effort, the communication in the car, in the ditch was really good,” Webb said. “As I said earlier, people were throwing ideas out there and it was all to take care of her to get her out.”
At last report, Fancher was responsive and alert.
