(CNN) – A high school teacher and football coach was put in a tough spot when his infant daughter was diagnosed with cancer at 10 months old.
Kinsley Green has been undergoing chemotherapy at a hospital in Birmingham, Alabama since October and still has months to go. This means, spending many nights away from mom and dad, who still have to work.
Last month, Kinsley’s mother, Megan, took to Facebook, asking if other teachers would donate sick days to her husband, David, so the family could spend more time together.
“And one of our teachers took the news story and e-mailed it out to the entire faculty,” said the school’s principal, Jennifer Doughit.
Educators at the school quickly banded together to donate a month’s worth of days to the family.
“You want to send words of encouragement you want to do something to help but this was a real physical way that we could help him and his family,” said teacher Anna Kachelman.
Wilma Deyampert, an assistant principal at Lakewood Elementary donated two days to the family.
“If I had more to give I would give him more,” she said.
Although the Green’s only needed about 40 days, teachers and administrators across the state donated more than 100, so David will be able to take time off to be with Kinsey when ever his family needs.
