The Richland County Sheriff’s Department has released the names of the Florence law enforcement officers involved in Wednesday’s shooting.
According to a press release from the office, the following law enforcement officers were involved in the shooting:
- Officer Terrance Carraway – Florence Police Department
- Officer Brian Hart – Florence Police Department
- Officer Travis Scott -Florence Police Department
- Officer Scott Williamson – Florence Police Department
- Deputy Arie Davis – Florence County Sheriff’s Office
- Investigator Sarah Miller – Florence County Sheriff’s Office
- Investigator Farrrah Turner – Florence County Sheriff’s Office
Two of the FCSO deputies remain in critical condition in the hospital while another is in stable condition, says the release. One Florence police officer also remains in the hospital.
“We are overwhelmed and grateful for the outpouring of support from this community for our wonderful officers and our agencies,” said Sheriff Kenney Boone in a press release. “We continue to ask for your prayers for healing for our deputies and their families, our agency, the Florence Police Department and our community which have been so deeply affected by this tragedy.”
Frederick T. Hopkins, Jr., 74, has been charged with the murder of Officer Carraway and six counts of attempted murder, the release says. Seth David Hopkins, 27, is being released from the hospital and is charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor in the second degree. Both will be held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center in Columbia.
On Wednesday, Florence County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived at the incident location to interview Seth Hopkins and serve a search warrant, according to the release. On arrival, they were “ambushed without warning” by Frederick Hopkins Jr., which led to the shooting of seven officers.
“We have been conducting interviews and gathering information to pin point a timeline of what transpired. Our goal is to disseminate the most accurate information we can confirm at the given time,” states the release. “We are working with the FBI Evidence Response Team (ERT); they currently have 25 agents on site processing the scene along with the Richland County Crime Scene Unit. We want to reiterate that it is still early in the investigation and we have a long way to go before we can answer all your questions.”
The release also says the RCSD is working with the Florence County Sheriff and Chief, as well as 12th Circuit Solicitor Ed Clements, whose office will be prosecuting the case.
