The victim in Tuesday’s homicide near the Myrtlewood community was a person of interest in a missing persons case.
A press release from the Fayetteville Police Department from May 31 says 42-year-old Mark Allen Verhasselt, of the 5200 block of Rockingham Road, and 23-year-old Ryan Dewain Chavis, of the 3300 block of Clemson Drive, are persons of interest in the disappearance of 31-year-old Charles Anthony Fuentes.
According to the release, Fuentes was last seen on March 3 leaving Izzy’s Sports Bar, located at 150 Andrews Road in Fayetteville, with Verhasselt and Chavis in a dark in color 2007 Lexus with North Carolina registration.
A press release sent from the FPD on Wednesday says the department’s Homicide Unit was contacted by Horry County police on Tuesday and informed that Verhasselt was a victim in a recent homicide.
Fayetteville police say in this release the two incidents do not appear to be related, but police are still actively investigating Fuentes’ disappearance.
Fuentes is described as a Hispanic male who is about 6-feet, 2-inches tall and about 160 to 170 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing jeans, a brown coat, and headphones.
Anyone with information about Fuentes’ disappearance or Chavis’ location, should call the Fayetteville Police Department at 910-224-3257 or Crimestoppers at 910-483-8477.
